James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”
God is generous by nature, and he wants us to both understand this, and become like this ourselves.
Jesus says, “Freely you have received, freely give” Matt 10:8
Prov 11:25: “The generous soul shall be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.”
The first thing that our heart needs to understand and believe, is how much God loves us, and the fact that he gives as much as we are able to consume.
Remember the story of the woman with the cruse of oil in 2 Kings 4 She said, “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a little oil.”
Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
She needed to BELIEVE that the oil would be multiplied ABUNDANTLY. She needed to get the number of vessels which expressed the level of her expectation.
Prayer: Lord, change my heart to expect your abundance, and not to expect you to be stingy in blessing me.
