2 Cor 10:4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
What are strongholds, and where are they, and why are they important?
Strongholds are patterns of thinking which have become deeply held sub-conscious beliefs. These beliefs in turn provide a safe “place” for influences in our lives that are powerful and controlling. The work of salvation helps us to
1. Arrest beliefs that are simply not true – resist the devil]
2. Gratefully receive beliefs that are a fountain of life – draw near to God
3. Guard those beliefs as they are tested
4. Seize the opportunity to bear fruit or to be the fruit that is borne
James 4:7-10 ESV says “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
Fight, Resist, Be single-minded. Be intentional, persistent and pugnacious. This is key to making progress in matters of the heart. Standing by and letting life happen to you, being passive or double-minded is not recommended for making spiritual progress. [James 1:5-8]
Prayer: Lord, please fill me with the Spirit so that I might be filled with determination, single-mindedness, fight and persistence in my journey of spiritual progress
